2 Types Of Floating Seals And Application

Floating seals (also called seal groups) were born in the late 1950s and were first used to replace rubber oil seals on bulldozer chassis. The original rubber oil seal is damaged very quickly due to the harsh environment, such as immersion in sediment, wear and corrosion, so the floating seal is a compact mechanical seal designed for such harsh working environments, which can prevent lubrication. When oil leaks out, external mud, water, sand and other pollutants are prevented from intruding into the inside of the equipment.

2Types of Floating Seals

1.1 Light Load Floating Seal

Also known as a DO-type floating oil seal, a light-duty floating seal generally consists of two round rubber rings and two metal rings with steep slopes. Usually, the round rubber rings are squeezed, and the force is transmitted to the metal rings to achieve the seal.

1.2, Heavy Duty Floating Seal

Also known as a DF-type floating seal, a heavy-duty floating seal generally consists of two rectangular cross-sections of the rubber ring and two similar “right-angle” slopes of the metal ring. When the rectangular rubber ring is in the middle of the seat cavity and ring body, due to the force conduction effect, the rectangular rubber ring will provide torque to the metal ring to protect its stable operation.

Floating Seals Application

Floating seals, also known as mechanical end seals, are specialized seals used to prevent leakage of oil or other fluids in machinery. This type of seal is usually used in heavy machinery such as construction equipment, industrial machinery, and ships. Floating oil seals have anti-pollution ability, wear resistance, automatic compensation, and other characteristics; they can be applied in a wide range of fields, mainly in low-speed and heavy loads, and the operating conditions of the harsh end seal. It can have superb sealing performance under the extreme conditions of coal dust, mud, water, and gas, such as you use the following mechanical equipment:

Such as excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, cranes, mixers, mining machines, tunnel boring machines, etc. You can also apply Floating seals, which are also commonly used in the walking part of the engineering machinery planetary reducer but also partially used in the dredger bucket wheel output shaft;

As sand processing equipment, conveyors, mixers, transporters, tracked vehicles, conveyor systems, heavy trucks, scraper conveyor sprockets, reducers, and coal mining machine drive mechanisms and rocker arms, rollers, etc., are applied.

Floating seal stability, its automatic realization of the oil seal adjustment function, and other characteristics make it very suitable for floating seals to make these areas of seals, which a lot of other seals can not reach the effect of the seal products, and floating seal application of industrial and mining compared to other sealing products can be applied to a broader range. Different materials and structures of floating oil seals can be used in different working conditions to meet the different working conditions of your equipment needs.
